Interior Designer Kitchen Ideas for Incorporating Holiday Décor

|
December 3, 2021

When it comes to Interior Designer Decorating Ideas for Christmas, there are many different ways to get festive. You can add a wreath or garland to your door, put up a Christmas tree, or hang stockings on the mantle. Most people are familiar with these ideas but the questions come when you get to the kitchen. What does an Interior Designer Kitchen look like? In this article we will go through how you can create a winter wonderland in your home, specifically within your kitchen to complete the festive look throughout your home.

It Starts With A Style

Interior decorating is a very personal process, and varies from person to person depending on their style, taste and preferences. The same is true for decorating during the holidays. If you walk down the Christmas aisles at any local store, you will encounter silver and gold glittered décor, burlap-black-and white plaid, the traditional red and green knits, and many many others.

Choose a style that compliments what you already have in the rest of your home, especially in the dining and/or living room. This is especially important if you have an open floor concept because the layout of the house will influences how your style flows. Keep it in mind.

If you are deciding that this is the year you are switching up your Holiday décor style, then go all out! What did you have and what is the feel you are trying to achieve? Keep these questions in mind when picking your new style.

After Style Comes Furnishings

You've decided on your style now what? Now, start envisioning what you want to put where. The biggest mistake you can make is to go to the store and just pick things out. Envision what you want and where you want it… then look for items that will fit into that design. If you're not sure where to start, here are a few ideas to help get you started:

  • Add a Christmas bow to your cabinet hardware.
  • Hang a stocking for each member of your family on the oven handle.
  • Put up a Advent calendar and fill it with treats each day leading up to Christmas.
  • Cover your kitchen chairs in a festive fabric like plaid, holly leaves, or even Santa's suit.
  • Hang a wreath on the pantry door or inside each window.
  • Put mistletoe where everyone can see it or where everyone tends to mingle during gatherings.

Don't Forget the Sounds and Smells

The holidays wouldn't be the same without the sounds and smells that we all cherish. The smell of grandma's cookies coming out of the oven or a warm apple pie cooling on the stove. These are memories that many cherish as an adult and want to share with family. But how do you incorporate that into your interior designer kitchen?

  • Bake some traditional holiday cookies or make a gingerbread house. Set them out for everyone to enjoy allowing the aroma to fill the air.
  • Use candles to create a Christmassy atmosphere. These should compliment your chosen style whether that is silver and gold, red and green or somewhere in between.
  • String popcorn and cranberries to make a holiday garland to hang on cabinet doors.

Whether you decorate for the season or all year long, there are many interior designer kitchen ideas that you can incorporate into your home right now. With just a little effort, you can create a warm and inviting space that will make everyone feel happy and festive. So get creative, have fun, and enjoy your home this holiday season! Happy Holidays!
